Get some Tezos
Tezos is available on popular exchanges like Binance, Kraken and Coinspot. I earn a small commission if you buy Tezos after signing up through these links.
Set up a Tezos wallet
To stake Tezos you will want to get them off the exchange.
If you're investing a small amount (under $2,000) you can get by using your phone or computer. In this case go to:
Kukai.app and download the app if you're on mobile.
If you're investing a large amount, you will need a dedicated crypto wallet. We suggest Ledger Nano S+ (I earn a small commission if you buy through this link).
With the Ledger Live software installed you can connect it to the Kukai website to set up staking.
Copy your Tezos address from Kukai
It starts with the letters 'tz' and has a bunch of letters and numbers after it.
And make a note of how you signed up for a wallet in Kukai, because each social network and the email option is connected to a separate Tezos account.
Turn on two-factor authentication in your social and email accounts.
You're ready to receive Tezos from the exchange!
Withdraw crypto
Look for the withdraw crypto section in the exchange and paste your Tezos address. Ensure you withdraw using the Tezos network. Make sure you withdraw at least a few hundred tez (my baker wont show if you try to delegate with a balance of less than 100 tez).
Stake Tezos
Head over to the official Stake Tezos website and click on the Connect Wallet button. Choose Kukai.
- Wait a few seconds, switch back to the Stake Tezos tab,
- Wait a few seconds, switch back to the Kukai tab,
- Click Connect, switch back to the Stake Tezos tab,
- Delegate to a Baker - pick mine - it's Money Every 3 Days, switch back to the Kukai tab to confirm,
- Stake an amount of Tezos (leave at least 1 tez to pay for unstaking), and
- Switch to the Kukai tab to confirm.
Watch your balance increase!
Head over to a popular Tezos blockchain explorer called TzKT.io and paste your 'tz' address. Take a screenshot so you know how much Tezos you started with! Check back in a few days time to see how much it has increased! It should grow by about 13.6% pa as of October 2024.
The current APY below excludes baker fees which vary between 0-100% and can be compared on TzKT/bakers.
Issues staking with Ledger?
- Make sure you have the Tezos Wallet app installed and open on your Ledger (install via Ledger Live)
- Quit Ledger Live if you have it open and refresh the stake.tezos.com page
- Try clearing your browser cache (search for cache in settings)
- Use Chrome web browser (Firefox does not work with Ledger)
